NUC Updated List of the Top Private Universities in Nigeria

Private universities have grown to bridge the gap of quality education that public schools cannot provide. This is because of the strict management, the availability of funds, and their affiliation with international bodies.

This is not to say that public schools are fading away but private universities have proven to be better academically and otherwise.

There are 99 private universities in Nigeria according to NUC. These universities have been approved to operate under the NUC guidelines for private University operations. That is to say that you can apply for any of these private universities without any fear.

The Top 10 private Universities in Nigeria according to NUC

  1. Covenant University: Covenant university is a Christian private university owned by the Living faith church. It is located in Canaanland, Ota, Ogun State. The Private university was established by the World Mission Agency on 21 October 2002.
  1. Babcock university: This is owned by the 7th-day Adventist church. It is located in Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, Nigeria. The university was named after an American missionary David C. Babcock. Babcock University leads the work of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Nigeria.
  1. Joseph Ayo babalola university: It is located between Ipo Arakeji and Ikeji-Arakeji in Osun State, Nigeria. Joseph Ayo Babalola University was established by the Christ Apostolic Church in 2004 and was named after Christ Apostolic Church’s spiritual leader. The university is the first entrepreneurial university in Nigeria.
  1. Bowen university: It is owned by the Nigerian Baptists convention. The university is located at Iwo in Osun State, Nigeria. It is the first Baptist’s university in Africa
