Standardized Tests
For applicants applying for the 2022-2023 academic year, Northeastern University is optional and does not require standardized testing to complete an admissions application.
Under the new policy, whether you’re graduating from an American or international institution, you can choose whether or not to submit standardized tests.
If you fail to submit standardized tests, you will not be penalized or harmed. All applicants will be fully considered for admission to the Northeast.
In recent years, Northeastern has required standardized testing of applicants who have completed no more than one year of full-time college education (24 or more college credits) after high school.
Standardized testing was not required for promotion applicants who had more than 1 year of full-time college education (24 or more college credit points) after high school or who graduated from high school more than 5 years ago.

- Mid-term report (highly recommended) for students currently enrolled in courses. The form is available online via the joint application and the coalition application. - Transcription assessment certified by a recognized accreditation agency (highly recommended). For transfer applicants who earned credits from an international university, an assessment is required to process the transfer credits upon admission to Northeastern. Transcripts must be graded by the Center for Educational Documentation (CED), SpanTran, World Education Services (WES), or another recognized accrediting agency, and the accredited grade must include the following
- An indication that the institution is accredited under US conditions
- One course per course Credit and grade conversion

English proficiency and international student requirements
All students, regardless of citizenship, are required to demonstrate English proficiency when applying to Northeastern. You can meet the requirement if:
- You are a native English speaker.
- You will complete four consecutive academic years prior to enrolling at Northeastern in a school or university where English was the primary language of instruction – AND – you submit an English language waiver request through your enrollment status verification.

Northeastern prides itself on its experiential learning and emphasis on learning by doing. All undergraduate students are required to complete at least three collaborative cycles, gaining hands-on work experience in their chosen field.
