1. National Open University of Nigeria Certificate Programs Requirements

a) Certificate Programs in Proficiency

  • No prior experience or education is required.
  • Reading and writing abilities will be advantageous.

b) University Certificate Programs (Academic)

  • Certificate of Junior Secondary School.
  • SSCE/GCE ‘O’ Level, NECO, or NABTEB with a minimum of two credits and no more than two sittings.
  • T.C. II with a minimum of two merits in a maximum of two sittings.
  • Candidates over the age of 30 having at least ten years of relevant work experience or evidence of prior knowledge/proficiency in a related discipline may be considered on their merits.

2. National Open University of Nigeria Diploma Programs Requirements

  • A minimum of three credits in the SSCE/GCE ‘O’ Level, NECO, or NABTEB in no more than two sittings, with a pass in the English Language.
  • Three merits in the Teacher Grade II Certificate in no more than two sittings.
  • Senior Islamic School Certificate/Advanced Islamiyyah Certificate, which includes Arabic and Islamic Studies Thanawiyyah Certificate from a Standard Islamiyyah School.
  • Academic Certificates from NOUN and other accredited universities.

3. National Open University of Nigeria Bachelor’s Degree Programs Requirements

  • Five credits in the SSCE / GCE O’Level / NECO / NABTEB or equivalents obtained in topics related to the proposed field(s) of study at no more than two (2) sittings.
  • Teachers’ Grade II Certificates with a minimum of five merits 
  • Candidates for admission to the School of Law must have a minimum of five (5) credits in NECO / SSCE or GCE O/L, including English Language and Literature in English, and a credit pass in Mathematics at no more than two (2) sittings.
  • The School of Arts and Social Sciences requires that one of the five credits or merits be in the English Language, with at least two (2) credits or merits in topics related to the proposed discipline.
  • English and mathematics must be included in the credit pass at the Ordinary Level for the School of Management Sciences.
  • Credit passes must contain Mathematics for Science Education and English Language for the humanities in the School of Education. 
  • Additionally, people pursuing a degree in Science Education must possess credit in the English language.
  • Credit passes must contain Mathematics and English Language for the School of Science and Technology.
  • The minimum entry requirement for the B.Sc. Environmental Science and Resource Management program is five (5) O’Level (SSCE / NECO / GCE or NABTEB) credits in not more than two sittings, including English Language and Mathematics, as well as one of the following subjects: Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science, or Economics.

How to Submit an Application for Admission into The National Open University of Nigeria

  1. Visit the website;  https://admissions.nouonline.net/
  2. Navigate to the Menu Bar on the Home Page and click on Apply for Admission.
  3. Select an undergraduate program, a postgraduate program, a doctoral program, or an ACETEL program.
  4. Navigate to “Faculty Selection” (note it can be found on the left-hand side of the screen)
  5. Choose Faculty.
  6. Complete the displayed form.
  7. To view the entrance criteria, please click the link you’d see below.
  8. To continue, click “Apply.”
  9. Keep an eye out for the UNIQUE ID displayed.
  10. Select the ‘Continue’ button.
  11. Select Bank Branch as the mode of payment.
  12. Click the “Pay” button.
  13. Take a copy of your RRR number and present it to any bank branch for payment.
